Zen's Fanfiction Page
Thanks for visting! This page is where you can find Zen's fanfiction, as well as links to Zen's favourite fanfics elsewhere on the net. Zen hopes that you will enjoy the stories found or referenced here.
An important note - This page will be undergoing fairly extensive modification over the next three months. No material will be removed, but the layouts are going to be updated a bit. Also, it is Zen's hope that a lot of new material will be added. Several projects are nearing completion, and will hopefully be done soon. In the meantime, thanks to all of you for your patience, and support.
You can read these on-line by clicking on the title, or, if you prefer, you can download the stories as zipped textfiles to save time, by clicking on the ZIP at the end of each description. Zen recommends this, particularly for the long one. ^_^
After another fight with Akane, Ranma has a disagreement with a delivery truck, and loses. Ranma's fiancees must deal with the possibility that they all may lose Ranma, while Ranma must take a good hard look at himself. (165k) ZIP (70k)
The only post Volume 38 story that Zen will ever write. Ranma and Akane finally marry. This story was written to satisfy a promise. It was not intended to be either long, or dark, but it became both. A serious examination of why Zen has such an unreasonable pro-Ukyou bias. Be warned. (460k) ZIP (185k)
For those with limited browser capacity, this story has been broken up into three parts for your reading convenience. Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3
Zen's Revenge Fics are available here, as well as links to other, more complete archives of material related to the Revenge Wars.
Since the Revenges, Zen has been known to commit fanfic reviews at the insistence of his tutors in the Worlds Welfare Works Association. These MST3WA reviews, as well as many others, can be found at Travis Butler's Fun Fanfic Review site... Just follow the above link to Zen's reviews, or click here for the main page.
Now if you want to read some *really* good fanfics, then here are a few places that Zen recommends that you check out. These people write way better than Zen does, and they tell some pretty nifty stories!
Jeff Hosmer's Rogues' Gallery - Hosmer-san's writing covers a wide range of animes, from Ranma to Sailor Moon, to Dirty Pair, among others - (Even some non anime fics!). His crossovers and co-authored projects, such as Sailor Moon Z and the Daigakusei no Ranma series are some of the most well known and well respected works in the genre. He also is known for 'Lies' - perhaps the definitive Ranma darkfic, and one of Zen's all time favourites. Do NOT miss his work.
Richard Lawson's Fanfics - Lawson-san, sadly, is a devotee of the "Akane and Ranma are Fated to be Together" school of thought, but he does it so gosh darned *well* - Though he *has* written a story set that puts Ranma together with someone else. No, it's not Ukyou, and Zen ain't tellin'. If you want to know, just check out this link!
Sebastian Weinberg's Fanfics - Weinberg-san also puts Ranma and Akane together, but with a twist. RanKO is Genma and Nodoka Saotome's only child, and SHE might have a problem marrying one of the Tendou daughters - except for this little "accident" she had whilst training in China. Zen says, Check it out!
Nicholas "Nightelf" Leifker's Fanfics - Leifker-san writes some of the most wonderful descriptive prose that it has been Zen's pleasure to read - and he tells some really great stories. Zen particularly recommends his "Sunrise Chronicles" and the Ranma/BubbleGum Crisis crossover "The Circe Project".
Sean Gaffney's Fanfics - Gaffney-san is perhaps best known [reviled] for his having written "Sour Times" - one of the archetypal Ranma-fics out there. Don't know *which* archetype? Follow this link and see! And while you're there, check out his "Ah! Megamisama" trilogy, and other delightful stories. Rumour has it he has even written a Dirty Pai... er... *Lovely Angels* fic! (Two of 'em, actually... and they're good, too!)
John Walter Biles' Fanfics - Bailesu-san was one of the first that Zen read, and is still one of the best. His Elseworlds story, "For Want of a Nail" is one of Zen's favourites - as is HIS Ranma/Bubblegum Crisis crossover, "RanmaPunk 2033". And be sure to check out his short stories "The Kiss" and "The Sting", as well as his Sailor Moon fics.
Mike Loader and Susan Doenime's Fanfics can be found on the Trans Pacific Fanfic Page. Mike is best known for his twisted sense of humour, evident in his stories 'The Varaiyah Cycle' and 'The Nameless Sequel' - both will have you rolling. Susan runs the spectrum from the darkly humourous 'Ukyou Can Cook' to the painful in 'Poison' - and when the two of them get together, you get masterworks like 'Ill Met By Starlight'. Not for the faint of heart.
Chris Willmore's Fanfics - Willmore-san took a peculiar fragment of a fanfic, and based an entire series on it. Ranma 2096 is one of the more unusual fanfic series around, and there are a number of side stories that others have written to fit in the R2096 universe... All are available at this page, as well as links to Willmore-san's other work, some of which has garnered him a rep as the "sickest man in fan fiction" - Definitely NOT to be missed!
Chris Davies' Fanfics - Davies-san writes some of the best Sailor Moon fics Zen has found - though how a show that was supposed to be an insipid little shoujo programme can inspire such serious and moving 'fics is beyond Zen... Even if you are not a sailor Moon fan, it would be a shame to miss out on "Serena and Luna..." And you certainly don't want to miss his new hyper-crossover "Together Again"
Uncle Fester's Fanfics - Fester-san's [Greg Sandborn's] largest body of work follows the marriage of Tendou Nabiki to a rich [of course] Gaijin, though he has written a number of stand alone shorts as well. Whether the story is silly or serious, Greg's style is lively and engaging - and very real. A definite must-read, particularly for those of you that like Nabiki and the Tendou sisters in general.
Mike "Cynewulf" Noakes' Fanfics - Maiku-san has the unique distinction of being, perhaps the only ficwriter on the planet that is slower than Zen. (Of course, that *might* have something to do with the fact that he has a life... ^_^) But his material is well worth the wait. He has a wry sense of humour, and a sense of drama second to none. And, like Lawson-san, he has a willingness to take on the really tough ideas. Read his stuff.
Scott Jamison's (SKJAM!) Fanfics - Scott is the son of a seska responsible for the whole "Revenge Fic" phenomenon. He has, as a result, rather a lot to answer for. But, he's a damn fine storyteller - his pieces are usually short, but he has interesting ideas, and lots of them. His page is new, and not all of his fics are there yet, but more are being added all the time. Take a look 'n see!
Lost Lurker's Fanfiction - Like him or loathe him, the Lurker has cut rather a wide swath through the fanfic community. Best known for his abrasive nature and short temper, it's easy to forget that he writes some damned fine stories. For those willing to listen, he'll spin a yarn that's engaging and fun. Now if only he'd actually *finish* one of the damned things. Rumour has it, though, that he is once more working on his 'Onna Red Side' (Wai!)
