Good gravy I'm busy. Turns out that our store (independent bookseller, of course) was one of the few chosen to supply books for the Book Expo coming up next month. This is pretty awesome, in general.
Now, I lose track of exactly how many books are in our (management detests the word chain, so:) company, but I know we're number nine. I think it's eleven. Anyway, we've got those stores, and a warehouse. The warehouse is cool, because we have a truck which runs things between our stores, and this lets us ship things in bulk from all stores to a specific vendor.
Which is probably more info than anyone reading this cares about, unless they're also a receiver. In which case, they'd already know that.
Anyway. We're supplying for the Book Expo (other companies are, too), and it's been determined that instead of storing all the stock we're getting at the warehouse, we're going to be storing it in our store. And of course, this means I have to receive it all, too. We're talking about over 4000 books, which I have to unpack, inspect, receive, repack, and then label.
I figured I was up for it, because this is in Jun, and it's only May. I have time, right?
Nope! 49 boxes arrived today, outside of my normal orders.
Exhausting. I finished the Expo supply, but I failed to complete my own normal receiving. I'll head in an hour early tomorrow and put the hammer down on that, but bleah. This was harsh. On the bright side, I'm pretty much 25% done with the receiving. Oh, sure, I still have to figure out where the hell I'm going to put everything, and then I have to work around it until it ships out.
And then, of course, I have to deal with whatever didn't sell (mostly sending it to the other stores with little heart stickers and smiley-faces), but damn that's tiring.
Still, there's something intrinsically satisfying about a day of good, hard work. I'm going to sleep the sleep of the just tonight.
To sleep, perchance ... to dream?
My muse is around, I know that much. Maybe I'll see her tonight. I hope!
